Bodybuilding Supplements

Whether you are a serious bodybuilder or an amateur beginner, you would probably need bodybuilding supplements. What will they help you achieve? Three things. Weight gain, muscle building and strength training. Here are a few supplements and their benefits.

Glutamine. Glutamine is the single most important amino acid in the body for creating anabolic conditions in the muscle and protecting you from overtraining. Glutamine is known to promote anabolic conditions in muscle cells and increase the rate of protein synthesis. Though the human body itself produces Glutamine, which is a nonessential amino acid, but for the bodybuilder, it is essential. This is because intense weight training pushes the body to use Glutamine in such vast amounts that it cannot be produced fast enough, leading to temporary and eventually long term deficiencies.

HMB. HMB, or "beta-hydroxy beta-methylbutyrate" is a metabolite of the amino acid Leucine. This is also produced naturally in the human body. Supplementing with HMB is advantageous to weight training athletes or those under extreme muscular stress. It is used to boost strength levels, enhance gains in muscle size, strength and prevent muscle tissue breakdown that can occur subsequent to strenuous exercise.

Ribose. Ribose is a pentose (5 carbon sugar) that is naturally found in the diet. It provides the backbone of DNA, RNA and adenine nucleotides (ATP, ADP and AMP). Repeated high-intensity exercise can lead to reduction of the ATP and adenine nucleotide pool in the muscle cell. Ribose supplementation enhances de novo synthesis and recycling of these nucleotides, leading to recovery of the muscle ATP. This means you will be able to work out longer and build muscle faster because you recover quickly from intense workouts.

Vitamin C. Research has shown that taking Vitamin C allows one's muscles to grow and lift better. Vitamin C is an antioxidant, protecting muscle cells from free radical damage, thus enhancing recovery and growth. It also helps in the absorption of Iron. Iron is necessary to help Oxygen bind to hemoglobin in blood. Without adequate oxygen transportation in blood, muscles are robbed of precious oxygen and performance is greatly reduced.

Creatine. Among the most popular bodybuilding supplements. Supplementing with Creatine will give you more energy and endurance during your workouts, allowing you to lift more weights. It also speeds up your recovery time.
