Home fitness is the most logical answer to all your health needs. After all going to the gym every day, or 3-4 days a week can be so boring and tiresome. If you could do the workouts at home, it would have been so much more convenient. Being active at home is ideal for busy people who are on the move. Just a few minutes in the morning sets you up for the entire day. You remain at prime health - both physically and mentally.

Home fitness may utilize one or more of the following items.

Exercise equipment: There are a number of popular exercise equipment. Consider either the treadmill, elliptical trainer or a stationary bike. While most people select the treadmill, the other products are equally useful.

Fitness videotapes: This is the least expensive item you may buy for home fitness. You may want to consider starting out with this to see if you have the self-motivation to exercise at home. Before you purchase a video, rent it to see if you like it. A good video will challenge you without straining you. To offer a complete workout, it should include aerobic activities as well as stretching and strengthening activities.

Stationary bicycles: These are very useful for home fitness but can be costly. Some are as much as $600. The more expensive models feature electronic measurement devices that can track heart rate and even the calories burned and intricate flywheel systems that adjust pedal resistance. An indoor stand for your outdoor bike is an economical option.

Stair climber machines: These have become very popular. You get on the two movable "steps" and raise and lower your feet one after the other while staying in one spot. The rhythmic resistance of your body weight against gravity provides a good non-impact aerobic workout.

Cross-country ski machines: Good for non-impact aerobic workouts. One advantage of these machines is that both the arms and the legs get a good workout. These machines cost between $100 to as much as $600 for models that record your time, distance and miles per hour.

Rowing machines: They use the large muscles in the legs, arms, as well as back and abdominal muscles. A good rowing machine costs anywhere from $300 to $600. People with back problems should consult their physician before beginning an indoor rowing program since some rowing machines, can place excess strain on the back.
