General guidelines for the male bodybuilder
- To become a bodybuilder you need to lift weights and do regular workouts. But how regular should your workout sessions be? Never under any circumstances go to the gym 7 days a week. A good schedule should be between 3-5 days.
- Never over train. Your workout sessions will be planned based on your health status and goal.
- Eat healthy and more than the average person does. Since as a bodybuilder you work harder, you need more calories to sustain yourself. 4-6 meals a day.
- Take rest. Try to sleep for 8 hours a day.
- Drink a lot of water.
Bodybuilding for the teenaged male
A great decision! It is always better to start at a young age. Because of the age advantage, you can establish a strong base from which they can build in the years to come. But remember, young people have faster metabolism. So it is very essential that you eat well. And also you must run, swim or bike for at least 3 times a week and work up to at least 30 minutes or more per session to condition your heart and lungs.
Bodybuilding for the over 40 male
Am I at a disadvantage? Is it too late already? Not at all - keep it going man! There are more over 40 championships these days then there have ever been. More and more people in your age group are actually taking up bodybuilding today. The biggest problem for male bodybuilders over the age of 40 is to keep the motivation going. So if possible, get a workout partner and keep each other going.
Bodybuilding for the vegetarian male
Bodybuilding equals hard work, which means the body would need more calories. So as a male vegetarian bodybuilder, do I stand a chance? 0f course you do. Plant foods contain the very same 8 amino acids as animal foods do, only in differing amounts. So, as long as you are getting enough calories from a healthy diet, plant foods can give the male bodybuilder all the amino acids that are necessary. So eat healthy, sleep and do the workouts - the muscle and muscle tone will follow.
